Four Snouts up for Inception
(:)(:)(:)(:) for Inception the new movie directed by Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) and starring Leonard DiCaprio and Ellen Page (of Juno fame) along with a capable large cast.
I knew next to nothing about this movie before seeing and so had exactly zero expectations (always my favorite and recommended viewing position, rarely attainable). Anyway, I loved it. I found it a completely compelling plot and got uncharacteristically caught up in the action sequences. In Hollywood speak, I'd call this Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind meets Matrix meets Oceans 11, part caper film, part intricate mind game/commentary on what is real/part action adventure.
Supporting Actors Tom Hardy and Dileep Rao I'd like to see a lot more of--both are beautiful to watch, with faces that have character and content and promising acting ability.
My husband was bored by some of the long gunplay and action scenes, and I can see why, in a different state of mind I would probably have felt the same. The snow/ice/fortress is particularly inexplicable and potentially tedious. Yet, so fascinated was I with the central conceit that I couldn't be bothered to watch it at that level.
Adding to the enchantment? We saw it in Williamstown, Massachusetts only tiny cinema house--delightful.

If you want Sacramento to look like Phoenix, vote for Kevin Johnson
Please vote for Heather Fargo over Kevin Johnson for Mayor of Sacramento, here's why:
Heather Fargo is an experienced, competent mayor (which in our weak mayor city,
means, chair of the city council) who is pro-environment, pro strong
neighborhoods and pro smart growth. She isn't perfect, and isn't the strong
leader that I'd want all other things being equal and she's been wrong on some
things (such as the arena), but she's from a neighborhood activist background
and is accessible and trustworthy.
Kevin Johnson on the other hand says that his model city for Sacramento to
follow is Phoenix, Arizona! Can you imagine, that city is the epitome of random
sprawl, air pollution, no thought put into development at all, in other words,
the bad direction Sacramento region has been going in. He is close to Bob
Thomas and the Tsakapulous developers and shares their philosophies.
Although he's saying the right things about the environment now, he refused to
even let the Sierra Club interview him and refused to fill out their
questionnaire, showing contempt for environmental positions.
Another reason not to vote for Johnson: a Planned Parenthood mailer today tells me that Johnson says he's pro life. And then when you add in the questions raised about him as a property owner/landlord and with possibly sexually harrassing teenage girls, I just don't think we can afford to gamble with this guy. I don't think he knows what he's doing.

Welcome to snicholspirit!
This is my first posting in my new blog, snicholspirit. I have been blogging at snicholsblog for a long time about a variety of matters, mostly political, but some personal. I have many subscribers to a list serve who receive the postings instantly. I judge that most of my readers don't want to read spiritual stuff, they want to read political stuff. But I want to write about spiritual stuff, so I have created this blog called snicholspirit to focus exclusively on that. I will still post on snicholsblog when the spirit moves me!
